How will Vermont healthcare workers get vaccinated for smallpox?

In a September 12th Commentary in the Rutland Herald titled “Vaccines are value”, Dr. David Schneider, a Rutland pediatrician, explained that smallpox vaccinations are no longer recommended or necessary [for children], that the disease was eradicated in the US in 1949 and that “There is no conspiracy”.

While, technically, smallpox (the disease) was eliminated globally in the 1980s, the smallpox variola virus that causes it exists in secure storage facilities in the United States and Russia, and the DNA of the virus has been sequenced. The threat of smallpox still very much exists and it is something we can talk about and consider.

If the lesson of 2025 is that sometimes the conspiracy is written down, the lesson of 2026 might be that sometimes it’s just everywhere in plain sight.

Since 1947, there has been an ongoing Russian KGB campaign to spread disinformation around public health, biomedical research, vaccines and now masks. The operation spread false information about the origin of the AIDS virus in the 1980’s, and the US withheld aid to Russia in the 90s to stop it. There were rumors of US biolabs during the 2014 West Africa Ebola epidemic and invasion of Ukraine. Across the world, their teams learned to engineer worse public health outcomes with social media. And for the last five years, the disinformation campaign has ramped up to be heavily anti-mask, anti-vaccine and targeted squarely at the United States. ¹

INFEKTION is the name of the operation making life difficult for pediatricians across Vermont, it is a campaign conditioning folks to be vaccine hesitant. (Discussing the smallpox now is on the opposite side of the Overton Window).

The unique change that has occured recently, is that despite the threat of COVID subsiding, the disinformation campaign is still blaring, and there are massive policy and resource changes happening in our country.

For example, on November 5th, Governor Phil Scott posted a picture of himself getting his seasonal vaccines to his X account (@GovPhilScott). Every Vermonter should go look at what the bots and folks who have been conditioned by bots are saying. Vermonters must think critically about the objective and danger of this disinformation, and what we’ll each have to do to effectively counter it. The operation has captured the ownership and leadership of our social media companies.

Trump’s term began by initiating the yearlong process to withdraw from the WHO. Then, someone took a chainsaw to our global public health initiatives, our counter-intelligence apparatus, and our disease control response infrastructure.² They killed the Voice of America, slashed USAID, and critically, they shuttered the State Department’s Center for Global Engagement, which was an office to track the spread of disinformation and the origin of news and warn foreign governments about active campaigns in their countries. ³

The conspiracy picked our anti-mask head of National Security, the anti-vaccinationist head of our HSS (heading our Strategic National Stockpile). Remember, in March of 2020, the policy around our national PPE stockpile shifted overnight at the whim of a Trump family member, who is again unelected, and at the core of our renewed kleptocracy. ⁴ ⁵ ⁶

They are moving swiftly and decisively at a breakneck pace to cut considerable resources.

So maybe, for healthcare workers, we do need smallpox vaccines. Although, previous administrations stockpiled enough doses for every American without the facts we now have. A kleptocracy now owns those stockpiles. They are looking to negotiate the sale of our country for personal gain.

We are seeing a group of people, beholden to an autocratic regime, pushing us directly down the path of the worst possible scenario in real time. There is no such thing as ex-KGB.

We are seeing a plan for healthcare that can’t be articulated. The vaccines deployed now may be our only insurance.

Given the captured state of our media, we may not know what is happening until cases appear in a non-autocratic country.

Social media platforms with personalized feeds are weapons of disinformation with individual level targeting. The AI models can be easily manipulated by anyone with access to the input datasets, which include the internet and AI users. The push to have everyone interact with and trust the output of AI is weird. Trump’s autocratic friends are openly discussing using surveillance and profiling to weaponize data against individual Americans. The virus could be just a small part of the plan. ⁷

We are in a very deadly game. Our smallpox vaccine stockpile had value, and without it, we may lose our country for generations.

As humans, we all have a voice. We care for each other and we bury our dead. We are pretty unique animals in that regard. Those are the infection pathways of a virus specifically adapted to humans.

Readers, please, ask your doctor if the vaccine is right for them. Ask your nurses (your loved ones), if they were vaccinated recently for smallpox.

There is a place where it is customary to get someone’s attention by making a hissing sound with one’s teeth. Folks use it to warn people in imminent danger.

There’s half a generation of nurses that would be hissing sharply at the nurses of Vermont, if they could warn anyone.

They might say something to the effect of:

The Devil is coming and the thieves are behind him. Look in the road.

The question for Vermont’s healthcare professionals is, if the obvious inference from the facts above is true, would they like to get a vaccinated now? Or would they rather leave it to the Devil we know?
